Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was founded at Kean University in 1975 as the first Latina sorority founded in the United States. Since their founding in 1975, Lambda Theta Alpha (LTA) has established more than 175 undergraduate and graduate chapters across the United States and Puerto Rico. Founded upon the principles of unity, love and respect, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. strives to promote scholarly excellence, empowerment of the universal woman, political & cultural awareness and community activism. The sorority is rooted in a deep history of educational advancement for the Latina woman, and continues this tradition through their motto "Latin by tradition, not by definition."

A "re-establishing” fraternity or sorority is one that was previously established at Rutgers University-Camden, but at one point in history became inactive as a chapter. These organizations are actively working to re-establish themselves on campus through taking new members, building relationships on campus and collaborating with existing recognized fraternities and sororities. Once they obtain their status as an established organization they are considered to be recognized by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs, and a fellow member of our greek community. We want our fraternity and sorority life community to flourish and part of re-establishing a chapter requires bringing in new members. If there is a returning chapter you might be interested in we highly encourage you to learn more about that organization!
